Any piece of land that can be accessed and tended by the public.

What can the funds be used for?

Funds can be used to buy seeds, tools, equipment and more. Funds can also be used to buy land with the explicit use of becoming a community garden.

Award amounts up to $1000.00

Requirements

Are you part of a cooperative, community-based organization, 501(c)(3) non-profit, or a student body of African descent? Are you located in North East Pennsylvania? If so, we have an exciting grant opportunity just for you! This grant is designed to support initiatives that empower and uplift communities, promote cultural heritage, and foster education and development among individuals of African descent. By qualifying for this grant, your organization can access vital resources that will enhance your programs, outreach efforts, and overall impact in the community. Don’t miss this chance to secure funding that can help you achieve your goals and make a meaningful difference!

Please upload a two-page narrative with your organizations name, address and phone number and detail your comprehensive plans for the community garden and composting system. In this narrative, we would like you to outline your strategy for acquiring land, including any potential purchase agreements or lease arrangements. Describe the types of seeds you intend to plant, focusing on varieties that will thrive in our local climate and contribute to food sustainability. Additionally, include a list of necessary tools and equipment for both gardening and composting, along with an estimated budget for each item. It’s also important to address any insurance considerations that will protect the project and its participants. By providing this detailed overview, you will help us understand how your plans will foster community engagement, promote environmental stewardship, and enhance local food production.

Please submit project narrative by February 31st 2025! Turnarounds for grants will be as little as 30 days in most cases (Just in time for growing season).
