BSU Coalition Project

Our goal is to unite the Black Student Unions (BSUs) across the Northeast Pennsylvania (NEPA) region, fostering a sense of community, solidarity, and collective action among students. By bringing together these organizations, we aim to create a platform where Black students can collaborate, share resources, and engage in meaningful dialogue around issues that impact their communities. This initiative will serve as an opportunity for BSUs to strengthen their presence in their respective schools while working toward a common cause that benefits not only their members but also the larger communities they belong to.

To make this vision a reality, the participating BSUs will engage in community service projects that directly benefit their local neighborhoods. The students will have the opportunity to choose the types of projects that resonate most with them, from organizing food drives and tutoring programs to volunteering at shelters or cleaning up local parks. This hands-on approach will allow the students to give back to the community, hone their leadership skills, and create tangible change in their surroundings, all while promoting civic engagement and teamwork among young Black leaders.

The incentive for this initiative is a $5,000 grant, which will be awarded to the BSU that completes the most community service hours. This grant is designed to help further support the winning BSU’s initiatives, whether that be for educational programs, future community service projects, or other endeavors that will continue to serve their schools and neighborhoods. By offering a financial reward, we aim to encourage friendly competition among the BSUs, while also demonstrating the value of dedication and hard work in creating positive social impact.

Ultimately, this initiative seeks to highlight the power of collective action and the importance of giving back to the community. By engaging in community service, the BSUs will not only compete for a grant but also build stronger, more supportive networks of Black students across the NEPA region. This effort will help to cultivate a sense of pride, purpose, and responsibility, ensuring that the next generation of Black leaders is not only prepared for academic success but also committed to the betterment of their communities.
